While the Street Kids Project was formed in 1998 an while the group always mindful of the highway of tears it wasn't until the death of Prince George youth AieLah Saric Auger in 2006 that the group engaged in the protection of children launching its own investigation.
Given the massive amounts of street level data the group had acquired through the years it became obvious the Highway of Tears was actually larger then many believed. The Group called for an expansion of the Highway of Tears operations theatre. The group moved on its own expansion and the RCMP followed suit six months later.
